The SPAR Group Limited is a South African based warehousing and distribution business, listed on the JSE in the Food and Drug Retailing sector, since 2004. The Group is a licensed member of SPAR International and operates in four distinct geographical regions (Southern Africa, Ireland, Poland and Switzerland).
The Group operates according to the principle of voluntary trading through the SPAR Guilds franchise model. This model allows independent retailers freedom to cater to their communities’ needs while at the same time being held up to standards and rules that keep them uniform as SPAR brands.
The Group, now headed up by CEO Brett Botten since March 2021, has a portfolio of over 2,400 member stores in South Africa. With a large country footprint, 35% of all stores under the SPAR Group are made up the liquor leg of the business, SPAR TOPS.
The Group operates across eight trading brands in ten countries, supplied through and supported by eight DCs (including imports and pharmacy). These trading brands offer products across grocery, fresh produce, liquor, pharmaceuticals and building material.
